West Brom land Murphy
Goalkeeper Joe Murphy
Murphy has signed a four-year deal
Premiership newcomers West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of highly-rated Tranmere goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

The 20-year-old Irishman has signed a four-year contract after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical at the Hawthorns.

Murphy's deal at Prenton Park ran out last month but the Baggies will still have to pay the Second Division club compensation because the keeper is too young to be available on a free transfer.

"With the transfer window closing in August we felt it was important to be strong in the goalkeeping department and I'm pleased we've managed to get Joe," West Brom manager Gary Megson told the club's official website.

"We watched him a few times last year and he's one for the future.

"But although he's a young lad, he's got a fair bit of experience at League level.

"We're now trying to bring other players in."
