Dobie going nowhere
West Brom are relying on Scott Dobie to help them in the Premiership
Scott Dobie was West Brom's top scorer last season
Newly-capped Scotland striker Scott Dobie has been told he is going nowhere after handing in a transfer request at West Bromwich Albion.

Dobie, the club's top scorer last season as he helped them back into the English Premiership, is reported to want more money after breaking into the international team.

New West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace stressed on Tuesday that the player was central to the club's plans for the coming season.

"We're a buying club, not a selling one, and we need to bring players in, not let them go," Peace told the official West Bromwich Albion website.

Key figure

"I'm only days into my term of office as chairman and there have been other things to resolve over the past few weeks.

"But we're very mindful of the fact Scott has enjoyed a good first season with us, and that he's just broken into the Scotland team.

"As part of our overall review of the way the club operates, we will be looking at individual players' contracts, where we think it is appropriate, in the run-up to the new season."

Dobie signed a four-year deal at the Hawthorns last summer after a £150,000 move from Carlisle.

After impressing on Scotland's tour of the Far East, the 23-year-old is likely to be a key figure in Berti Vogts' squad for the Euro 2004 qualifiers.
