Mardon set to call it a day
Paul Mardon
Mardon admits defeat in long-running battle with injury
West Bromwich Albion defender Paul Mardon is set to announce his retirement from full-time football.

The Welsh international is ready to admit defeat in his long-running battle against injury and has opened talks about leaving Albion.

Albion chief-executive John Wile said: "Paul has been in to see me a couple of times to discuss his situation and he's looking very seriously at retiring.

"It is certainly in Paul's mind to take that action," he added.

Mardon had a loan spell at Plymouth Argyle earlier this season, but has failed to break into Albion boss Gary Megson's plans since his return.
