Barnsley lead race for Grant
![]() Grant (centre) in action for former club Everton
Barnsley have joined the race to sign Manchester City's Tony Grant.
The 26-year-old midfielder is already wanted by First Division rivals West Brom after spending a month on loan at The Hawthorns. Another City player, Ian Bishop, is also on his way out of Maine Road. He has been targeted by Sheffield Wednesday. City's chief operating officer Chris Bird said: "Tony Grant is talking to Barnsley about a move, which could be in the region of £400,000, while Ian Bishop is talking to Sheffield Wednesday about a possible free transfer." West Brom recently made an undisclosed offer for Grant, who has endured a lean time since joining City from Everton 13 months ago. But Albion's chief executive John Wile said: "It is not entirely clear whether Joe Royle will let him go."
