Watford defender Lee Hodson has signed a three-year contract keeping him at the club until 2012.
The 18-year-old full back made his debut in the Carling Cup against Barnet in August and has made 12 league appearances for Malky Mackay's side.
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international came through the academy ranks at Vicarage Road.
"I didn't expect it to happen this quickly I must admit," Hodson told the club website.
He added: "That's what I've been aiming for. The pressure is now off me slightly as I've secured a contract for three years. But it doesn't mean the hard work stops.
"I've wanted to make the most of my chance in the first team and I think I've done that.
"The manager put me in the team. It could have been my only chance, so I knew I had to take it and it was a great feeling.
"If you're performing well enough the manager will give you a chance and that's great for the younger players at the academy."
Hodson is with the Northern Ireland Under-21 side as they look to beat European champions Germany on Friday.
"Going away with Ireland is a great experience.
"International football is always good, it's the next step to the higher level - I'm enjoying it and it's a test, but it's great to have reached another goal."
