Mackay in no rush to sell players

Watford manager Malky Mackay says the club are in a "transitional period", with player of the season Tommy Smith set to leave for Sheffield United.

Smith and John Joe O'Toole are set to follow Lee Williamson to Bramall Lane.

But Mackay says he's delighted to have signed Scott Severin and Danny Graham, and that players will only be sold if the price is right.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: "I would love to keep Tommy, and I'm sure all supporters feel the same."

"But there has to be reality checks in terms of the bids coming in."

England Under 21 goalkeeper Scott Loach and USA centre-half Jay Demerit have both had their profiles raised over the summer after international duty, but Mackay says it's not a fire sale.

"There is no way that this chairman or this football club will sell players for less than their market value.

"I'm delighted with what Scott and Jay have achieved this summer, and I'm delighted to have them at the club.

"We have also brought in two good players in Scott Severin and Danny Graham. Scott is a good professional, and Danny is a good young talent."
