Watford have announced that former chairman Sir Elton John is returning to the Championship club.

He will take up the role of honorary life president, the position he resigned in November because of his disenchantment with events at the club.

The 62-year-old told the club website: "Watford FC is in my blood. Wherever I am in the world I cannot resist keeping up with the news about Watford.

"I am encouraged to know the team has been playing better."

The music superstar is reunited with close friend Graham Taylor, who joined the board in January.

Taylor was manager of the Hornets whilst John was chairman for over a decade between the mid-'70s and mid-'80s, and then again from the late-'90s until 2002.

John said: "I wish the new chairman and the board, the manager, the team and all Watford's loyal supporters a very successful conclusion to the season and I hope that in the summer next year we shall all be able to come together for another concert to benefit the club."

Current Watford chairman Jimmy Russo said: "I am delighted that Elton is once again a part of this great football club.

"He is as passionate a person, when it comes to Watford, as you would wish to meet and he has been fully supportive of myself, my brother Vince and, of course, the manager Brendan Rodgers.

"The current board were very keen to re-engage with Sir Elton and we all see this as nothing but a positive move for the club, the supporters and Sir Elton John."
