Watford line up Taylor
Peter Taylor
Taylor arms would be somewhat tied at Watford
Former England caretaker manager Peter Taylor has emerged as the favourite to become the new Watford boss.

Taylor left promoted Brighton at the end of last season because of a lack of resources and, according to reports, his appointment could be confirmed within days.

Ironically, Taylor's options would be restricted at Watford with the club suffering financial problems.

They have sacked Vialli, and his assistant Ray Wilkins, as the latest and most high-profile of several recent departures from Vicarage Road.

The club will also have to pay Vialli £1.6m in compensation for the remaining two years of his contract after the Italian refused to resign.

Watford are likely to have to pay former Tottenham and Celtic defender Ramon Vega about £2m in compensation if he is released as expected.

Taylor is a leading contender for the post but Steve Coppell and Terry Burton have been mentioned as possibilities.
