Watford's Pennant swoop
Arsenal midfielder Jermaine Pennant
Pennant was snapped up by Arsenal when only 15
Watford have signed Arsenal midfielder Jermaine Pennant on an initial one-month loan deal.

The England Under-21 star hit the headlines as a 15-year-old when the Gunners bought him from Notts County for 2m in January 1999.

Pennant has made six appearances for the Premiership club and joins former Arsenal players Paolo Vernazza, Stephen Hughes and David Noble at Vicarage Road.

Watford manager Gianluca Vialli made his move after clinching the signing of Australian international Paul Okon from Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Pennant, who turns 19 next week, became the youngest player to appear in Arsenal's first team.

He was 16 years and 319 days when picked for a Worthington Cup tie at Middlesbrough in November 1999.
