Taylor has endured his ups and downs
Graham Taylor has announced that he will be retiring from management at the end of the current season.

The present Watford manager and former England coach said: "After much consideration and after over 1,000 league games, I have decided it is time for me to retire from club management at the end of this season."

Taylor, 56, has had a high-profile and mixed career in his 28 years in management which began at Lincoln in 1972.

He went on to take charge of Watford and Aston Villa before a turbulent tenure in charge of the England side.

England crashed out in the group stages at Euro 92 in Sweden and failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

He returned to club management with Wolves and then moved back to Watford where he had first made his name.

He guided the Vicarage Road club to two successive promotions into the Premiership from Division Two before they were relegated last term after one season in the top-flight.

In his first spell with the club he guided them from the Fourth Division to second place in the top flight in 1983, and the FA Cup final the following season.
