Palmer is Watford bound
Carlton Palmer
Palmer is the Hornets' latest acquisition
Watford boss Graham Taylor is teaming up with Carlton Palmer again, taking him on a three-month loan from Coventry.

Palmer won all of his 18 England caps under Taylor, who is looking to the 35-year-old midfielder to help end the Hornets run of five consecutive defeats.

"I am looking for what I consider to be leaders," said Taylor.

"I worked with Carlton at international level and I know that he is a leader.

Good leader

"He has a lot of experience, and I know that he can lead - both in the dressing room and on the pitch.

"This kind of player and this kind of person is more and more difficult to find these days.

"I'm delighted to have Carlton here now and I will be looking for him to do the things I know he is good at."

Palmer started his career with West Bromwich Albion in 1984 and made more than 130 appearances for the Baggies before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 1989.

After more than 250 appearances for the Owls, then Leeds boss Howard Wilkinson paid 2.6m to take him to Elland Road in 1994. He moved to Southampton in 1997 for 1m, joined Forest for 1.1m last year and after a brief spell at the City Ground moved to Coventry.

The Sky Blues have the right to recall Palmer after one month of the loan deal if they wish.
