League One strugglers Walsall have signed striker Liam Dickinson on a one-month emergency loan from Barnsley.

Dickinson, 25, joined the Tykes for £150,000 from Brighton in June but has started just one game for the club.

"He's a big, strong lad who will cause problems for defenders," manager Chris Hutchings told the club website.

Dickinson should be available to play against Peterborough, where he spent three months on loan last season, at the Bescot Stadium on Tuesday.

He scored three goals in nine games on loan at London Road as Posh were relegated back to League One after a solitary season in the Championship.

Hutchings has boosted his attacking options in an attempt to help his team climb off the bottom of the table, following a run of eight defeats in their last 11 league matches.

The pair previously worked together at Derby, while Hutchings was caretaker manager at Pride Park in December 2008.

"Liam will give us something different to what we've already got," said Hutchings. "He can run the channels, play up on his own or as part of a two-man attack.

"He is someone who I have worked with before and is a committed and willing lad who will help us put teams under pressure.

"He's scored goals in the past and hopefully this move will kick-start his career and help get us moving up the table."
