Walsall in third straight profit

Walsall FC

Walsall have announced a profit for the third year in a row.

A club statement reveals that the Saddlers made a trading profit of 408,000 for the year ending May 2008.

That profit includes the League One club's controversial double sale of Dan Fox and Scott Dann to Coventry City in January transfer deadline week.

Club chairman Jeff Bonser emphasised his insistence on sound financial management means that the club have avoided the pitfalls of overspending.

The Walsall board have been taken to task by some supporters for a perceived lack of ambition, especially following the departure of Fox and Dann.

But Bonser used the statement to criticise those clubs who spend beyond their means to try and gain an advantage.

The chairman insists that the club are aiming to return to Championship level by improving their infrastructure, pointing to the recent opening of the Saddlers' new training ground in Essington as a major step forward.

Walsall will stage their AGM at the Banks's Stadium on Monday 17 November at 0900 GMT.
