Saddlers boss praises youngsters

Jimmy Mullen
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen was thrilled with his players' total commitment

Walsall's younger players will have grown up rapidly during their 1-0 win at Brighton on Saturday according to their boss Jimmy Mullen.

The Saddlers played for more than an hour with nine men after red cards for Rhys Weston and Netan Sansara.

"They were magnificent," said Mullen, "the younger boys. What an experience, what a match to look back on.

"I'm sure from the supporters' point of view they've seen a spirit within the camp," he told BBC Radio WM.

Remarkably, Walsall scored the winning goal when they were already down to nine men, Dwayne Mattis heading home from a free kick.

At the final whistle, Mullen could scarcely contain his admiration for his team's commitment.

"It's a fantastic performance individually and as a group," he added. "The atmosphere in the dressing room at half time was of great determination to get something out of the game.

"The dressing room at the end of the game was absolutely unbelievable. The place was bouncing and quite rightly so."

The Saddlers boss was studying footage of the game over the weekend before deciding if he would appeal against the red cards for Weston and Sansara.
