Sonner leaves Walsall
Danny Sonner
Walsall cannot afford to keep hold of Sonner
Walsall have released midfielder Northern Ireland international Danny Sonner by mutual consent.

The Saddlers have reached agreement with Sonner over the remainder of his contract at the Bescot Stadium.

The former Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham midfielder joined Walsall last summer and started 20 league games this season.

Sonner, 31, returned to the side for last Saturday's game against Portsmouth but with new signing Jamie Lawrence free from suspension and Fitzroy Simpson back from injury is now surplus to requirements.

Manager Colin Lee said told the club's official website that financial pressures had forced him to make the tough decision.

"With Vinny Samways, Carl Robinson and Jamie Lawrence all recently added to our midfield, it is a position that we have plenty of cover in, so Danny has had to be sacrificed," he said.
