Ainsworth joins Walsall
Wimbledon midfielder Gareth Ainsworth has joined Walsall on a month's loan.

Ainsworth has been kept out of the Wimbledon first-team by highly-rated youngster Jobi McAnuff.

Wimbledon meet Walsall on 14 December at the Bescot Stadium and Ainsworth will not be allowed to play in that game.

The former Preston, Lincoln and Port Vale man, cost Wimbledon 2m when they signed him from Vale in October 1998.

"He is a very direct player, who gives me various options as he can play out wide on the right or as an attacking midfielder player," Walsall manager told the club's website.

"He is a player who we have watched a number of times and who possesses plenty of pace and is able to cross a decent ball."

The month's loan will finish after Walsall's clash with Nottingham Forest on New Year's Day.

Lincoln City had also expressed an interest in bringing Ainsworth back to Sincil Bank.

"Gareth is the type of player we're looking for and I've been speaking to him for a week or two," revealed Alexander.

"In fairness to Gareth, he said right from day one that he would love to come back here.

"He was quite happy to come on loan, but if anyone from a higher division came in he would have to consider that.

"If things change over the next month or so then he might be able to come to us."
