Weather frustrates Tranmere Rovers, says Scott Wootton

On-loan Tranmere Rovers defender Scott Wootton says his side have been left frustrated by the freezing weather.

Prior to Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Leyton Orient, Rovers had been without a game since 23 November after three successive postponements.

And that has added to struggling Rovers' problems, who have already been finding it difficult to train.

"It's been very frustrating because the training pitches have been frozen," Wootton told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"We've been going to the soccer dome to play five-a-side and we've been doing dance classes at the ground.

"There have been ways of keeping us fit, but we want to be on the training ground and playing games, so it has been very frustrating."

The on-loan Manchester United defender, who is set to stay at Prenton Park until January, scored his first league goal for Tranmere in the 2-1 reverse against the O's.

And, after halving his side's 2-0 interval deficit, with still half an hour left, Wootton reckons that Rovers should have taken something from the game against their fellow strugglers.

"We're very disappointed as it was a big game," said the 19-year-old. "Both teams are right next to each other in the table and we need to be winning games like this.

"If we watch the game back and see the chances we had in the second half, we were very unlucky.

"It was a great performance by their keeper Jason Brown to keep them in it.

"The lads were brilliant in the second half and, with the chances we had, we were very unlucky not to win."
