Tranmere's Blanchard enjoying holding-midfield role

Tranmere Rovers Maxime Blanchard says he is enjoying his reinvention as a holding-midfield player.

The 23-year-old Frenchman arrived at Prenton Park during the summer, having spent the majority of his career at centre-half in France.

"Actually I'm a centre-half but I enjoy that position because I can run a lot and I can touch a lot of balls," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I can help the team more, so yes I like that position."

Prior to his arrival on Merseyside, Blanchard had spent his career in the French third tier, with Laval, L'Entente SSG and Moulins.

He says despite Tranmere's inconsistent start to the season, England's League One is head and shoulders above its French equivalent.

"If you are talking about the structures, the stadiums and the training fields it's well better.

"The fans are more passionate here than in France," said Blanchard.

"In France, in the third division it's really, really not good. Nobody comes to see the game and if they come it's like they're watching a movie, they don't say anything."
