Tranmere Rovers bring in keeper Gunnar Nielsen

Tranmere Rovers have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen on a six-month loan deal.

The Faroe Islands international, 23, had a loan spell at Wrexham in 2008/09 and has made just one substitute appearance for City.

Nielsen told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I spoke to Shay Logan, who was here last season, and he said it's a great club.

"I need to see everyone a bit more in training but from what I've seen so far it has been really good."

He added: "Tranmere have been interested for quite a while and I've just extended my deal with City as well, so that needed to be sorted out before I came here.

"I didn't know much about the squad before I came here. But what I saw against Nottingham Forest was really good and I was impressed by it."

Nielsen played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 friendly win over Forest at Prenton Park on Wednesday and manager Les Parry was pleased with what he saw.

"In terms of goalkeeping, he's only young," said Parry. "But he's done a lot for his age and I'm sure the fans will really take to him.

"He's a big lad and he didn't have that much to do [against Forest] but he made a good save in the first half, gathered a few and punched a couple of corners.

"I'm sure he'll be quite pleased with his own performance. I'm very pleased with our capture."
