Midfielder John Welsh signs new deal at Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere midfielder John Welsh has signed a new two-year contract to stay at Prenton Park until 2012.

Welsh, 26, made 52 appearances for the League One club last season after joining from Hull City last summer.

"John performed consistently well for us last season so I'm pleased he has signed a new contract," said Tranmere boss Les Parry.

"He's a hard working midfielder, a great character to have around the club and a very enthusiastic professional."

Parry added: "He formed good partnerships with Ash Taylor, Joss Labadie and Paul McLaren during last season and hopefully they'll continue where they left off."

Welsh scored four goals and won the supporters' goal of the season vote for his strike against Gillingham in the first home league game of the season.

He is the seventh player to sign this summer, following the arrival of Joss Labadie and Timothy Cathalina, and the new deals signed by Ash Taylor, Marlon Broomes, Ryan Fraughan and Jack Mackreth.
