Appiah captained Ghana at the 2006 World Cup in Germany
Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah is training with Tottenham this week, with a view to earning a permanent move.
The 28-year-old has been without a club since ending his deal with Turkish side Fenerbahce in August and has previously been linked to Arsenal and West Ham.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: "He had a bit of a problem with his knee but he is fine now - he's fit and looks OK. If he is fit he's a terrific player.
"He is going to train with us and we'll have a chat and see what the deal is."
The Ghanaian captain, who looks set to be offered a deal until the end of the season, was also on Redknapp's radar when the Spurs manager was in charge at Portsmouth.
"I watched him an awful lot for Ghana - about six times - but I ended up taking Sulley Muntari because Juventus were asking £14m for Appiah," added Redknapp.
Muntari arrived at Pompey from Udinese in May 2007 but is now at Inter Milan.
