Tottenham have parted company with reserve team boss Clive Allen as they rebuild under Frank Arnesen.

Allen, who replaced Colin Calderwood in mid-season, follows David Pleat out of the White Hart Lane set-up.

The former England striker scored an incredible 49 goals in the 1986/87 season as then-manager Pleat led Spurs to third place in Division One.

Arnesen starts as Spurs' sporting director on 1 July, when he will search for a new head coach.

Previous coach Glenn Hoddle was sacked in September, with Pleat taking over in a caretaker capacity for the rest of the season.

Now former Republic of Ireland defender Chris Hughton is waiting to hear his Tottenham fate after assisting both Hoddle and Pleat over the past three campaigns.

Allen insisted that his departure was not an acrimonious one.

"The agreement we had was going to run until such time as permanent appointments were going to be made. I understood the situation and it has come to a natural conclusion.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed it and in the longer term I would love to get involved again in some role.

"I'll always be available should the call come. I've got a passion for the club and the opportunity to come in was what I'd always dreamed of."
