Tottenham's new sporting director Frank Arnesen has insisted that the club have not yet decided who will fill the vacant managerial position.
The former Denmark international, who was brought in to replace David Pleat, revealed that he will have a say on who is handed the job.
"We've a very, very big issue about the manager for next season. We have not identified the man just yet," he said.
"The chairman and I have to deal with this matter. We have limited time."
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has said Arnesen's appointment is part of a new
'continental structure'.
Arnesen would be expected to work with a first-team coach, with the Dane set to have the final say on squad recruitment.
"My work will be the youth policy, the transfers and all sorts of things," said Arnesen.
"The manager is the one who is on the pitch training the players on a daily basis and developing the players every day.
"But we have the same target. It will be strange for the club if I go out and buy a player without consultation with the manager."
Arnesen insisted he was confident the new regime could lift Spurs out of the bottom half of the Premiership.
"That is the challenge. For me Tottenham are a big club with a big history," he told talkSport.
"I think there are some very good young players there. We have to get on a level and stay there. We have to go up the table and stay there."
