Redknapp signs for Spurs
Jaime Redknapp
Redknapp was Liverpool's longest serving player
Jamie Redknapp has signed a four-year contract with Tottenham after being released on a free transfer from Liverpool.

A message on Liverpool's website said: "He will be sadly missed by fans and team-mates alike and everyone...wishes him well with the rest of his career."

He has made more than 300 appearances for Liverpool, although the past two seasons have been dominated by long-term knee problems.

He underwent knee surgery in the United States in an attempt to cure the problem.

His last appearance for the club was as a late substitute in the 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund at Anfield on 30 October.

He began his career at Tottenham as a schoolboy before turning professional at Bournemouth.

He was signed by Kenny Dalglish for £350,000 from the south coast club in January 1991 and was the longest serving player in the current Liverpool squad.

Former England and Tottenham midfielder Alan Mullery believes Redknapp will be a success at White Hart Lane - providing he can stay away from the treatment table.

Time to move on

Mullery said: "Jamie is a very talented footballer - but fitness is obviously a question.

"However, if the knee holds up I think he'll be a tremendous acquisition."

He continued: "It's probably the time for him to move on. He doesn't need to battle again to be a regular in the Liverpool side.

"Liverpool have so many midfielders and, no disrespect to Jamie, they haven't missed him.

"He's been a terrific servant and they're giving him an opportunity to extend his career at another top club and do what he wants to do - play football."
