Spurs seal Keller transfer

Keller faces a fight to be Spurs' first-choice keeper
Goalkeeper Kasey Keller has agreed to join Tottenham on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old American left Spanish club Rayo Vallecano earlier this summer, and will return for a second spell in England after playing for Millwall and Leicester.

Keller's agent, Colin Poundford said: "After several offers that the player has received this summer, from many teams including Besiktas, Tottenham and another important English side, Keller has decided to sign for Spurs."

The US international left the Foxes two seasons ago to join Madrid-based Vallecano.

Keller was first choice while at Filbert Street, but he faces a fight with Scot Neil Sullivan for the number one jersey at White Hart Lane.

Poundford added: "He had his medical on Sunday and early Monday morning.

"I have not spoken to the player or to the club in order to know when he will be officially presented.

"Tottenham are at the moment away in Greece but are returning this evening."

The agent refused to discuss the length of the deal, but said: "Both sides are happy with the deal."

Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle has been searching for back-up to provide cover for Sullivan following the departure of Ian Walker to Leicester.

He revealed on Sunday that he expected to sign a keeper and a defender before the first game of the season against Aston Villa on Saturday.

And Hoddle is believed to want to bring Southampton centre-half Dean Richards to White Hart Lane - although no official approach has been made yet - to complete his summer rebuilding project.

The Londoners have also been linked with a possible move for Hibernian's Danish defender Ulrik Laursen in several Scottish newspapers.
