Levy hopes to revive Spurs
![]() Levy hopes to give Spurs more to shout about
BBC Sport Online profiles Daniel Levy, whose company is behind the takeover of troubled Tottenham.
Daniel Levy's dream is to bring back the good times for Tottenham's long-suffering supporters. Spurs fans know their club has fallen behind the other Premiership giants in recent years and must quickly re-establish themselves as a leading club. Levy is a long-time Tottenham fan whose company has bought chairman Sir Alan Sugar's stake in Spurs, has a financial interest in several of Europe's leading clubs. The Cambridge economics graduate is managing director of international sports, entertainment and media group English National Investment Company plc, a major player in the world of football business. Track record Levy, whose family founded the Mr Byrite clothing chain, joined the ENIC board in November 1995 with experience in corporate finance and the management of businesses across a number of sectors. Levy runs the company with the son of billionaire Joe Lewis who is now retired to the Bahamas. He is responsible for persuading the company to start buying up clubs. They began by acquiring a percentage of Glasgow Rangers when the Scottish giants were looking to improve their standing among the European elite. Since then ENIC have gained significant shareholdings in Italian outfit Vicenza, Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic, AEK Athens of Greece and FC Basle in Switzerland. When looking for a new investment ENIC's policy is to target a club with a proven track record in European competition and then cash in from television rights. Last year 38-year-old Levy was also among those to show an interest in buying Wembley Stadium but ended his negotiations when the deal became too complicated. Levy has been tracking Spurs for some time, having made two failed attempts to buy the club in the past.
