Buckle does not want to rush in to buying new players
Torquay United boss Paul Buckle has said he employs a cautious approach when it comes to bringing new players to Plainmoor.
The Gulls have been looking at a number of trialists in recent weeks as Buckle looks to strengthen his squad.
Buckle told BBC Radio Devon: "We've been very busy, there are a lot of players out there without a club.
"But ultimately we don't want to bring anybody here who hasn't got a realistic chance of getting into our first team."
Last month, Buckle had his playing budget increased by the Torquay board, with the specific aim of bolstering the Gulls squad as they adapt to life in League Two.
And the 38-year-old manager said there is no shortage of potential recruits.
"I get several letters every day from players and I always reply," said Buckle.
"Generally if I bring a trialist in I'll have done some homework or he's coming highly recommended.
"Otherwise I try and target those who are playing at the moment or are in reserve teams."
Buckle signed Southampton midfielder Jake Thomson on a one-month loan at the end of October and the Torquay boss says he is delighted by the aptitude his new charge has shown.
He said: "Jake has come in and done well. It's always important to get off to a good start when you're on loan.
"We've got a couple of wins off the back of him coming in, so that's great, but he needs to keep his standards and levels high if we're to carry on with the loan."
The Gulls are away at Shrewsbury Town in League Two on Saturday.
