Tamworth have confirmed caretaker boss Des Lyttle has been appointed as manager on a full-time basis.

The 39-year-old took charge of the Lambs following the departure of Gary Mills to York City on 13 October.

"I guarantee that I will do my best on and off the pitch and work hard to get the best out of the players," Lyttle told the club website.

Tamworth are 19th in the Blue Square Bet Premier - three points above the relegation zone.

Lyttle failed to win any of his five league games as caretaker manager, but guided the Lambs to the second round of the FA Cup with victories over Grimsby Town and Crewe Alexandra, before losing 3-2 at League One side Carlisle on Saturday.

"We'll play football in the right way and in a way that I hope the fans will enjoy," added Lyttle.

"Our first aim will be to pick up some much-needed points to help us move away from the lower regions of the league."

Lyttle played almost 500 games in a career spanning almost two decades, helping Nottingham Forest to third place in the Premier League in 1994/5 and winning promotion to the top-flight with West Bromwich Albion in May 2002.

His first game in full control of Tamworth will be at home to Newport on Thursday.
