Swindon have signed Italian defender Alberto Comazzi on a free transfer.

Comazzi, who has joined on a two-year contract, came through the youth ranks at AC Milan and spent several seasons at Verona.

The 32-year-old has spent most of his career in Serie B, although he played in the Italian third tier last season for Spezia.

Manager Paolo di Canio told BBC Wiltshire: "Alberto is a very important player because he's a natural leader.

He added: "He's the player we need in the back line, next to (Joe) Devera.

"They can form the best couple of central defenders in the league in my opinion.

"He has so much experience, he's a really fit player.

In the way we want to play he will be very crucial to send the message inside of the dressing room."

Comazzi said that Di Canio was a big reason behind his decision to join the League Two side.

"I chose this club because of Paolo, there is a lot passion in this club. I want to win with this club.

"It's a big adventure for me," he concluded.
