Swindon Town midfielder Matt Ritchie has been voted the Robins' player of the season.

The 21-year-old, who signed permanently from Portsmouth in January, was given the award at a supporters event at the County Ground.

"The season hasn't gone to plan but it's a bonus to know the fans appreciate the hard work," Ritchie told BBC Wiltshire.

"I expect it [the trophy] will go on the mantle piece."

Swindon were consigned to relegation from League One on Easter Monday when they lost 3-1 at Sheffield Wednesday.

It comes less than a year after they lost out in the Wembley play-off final to Millwall.

"It's a season where we've underachieved and hopefully we can pick up and go again, " added Ritchie.

"A lady's just told me that the club's that have gone to the play-offs and then got relegated have gone straight back up so hopefully we won't break that."
