Swindon striker Charlie Austin will not need surgery

Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin will not need an operation on his dislocated shoulder.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury after a collision with Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis in Saturday's 1-0 win.

Swindon physio Dick Mackie told BBC Wiltshire: "The specialist has given him a thorough examination and is fairly happy."

The medical experts should know more within the next few weeks.

Mackie added: "His symptoms are relatively moderate. He [the specialist] sees no reason to do anything more dramatic than increase his rehab.

We've got a couple of strikers in the club who are champing at the bit to play and they deserve opportunities

"Surgery brings a risk, the guy [specialist] has gone for the best option."

Austin scored as Swindon collected their first win of the league campaign.

The goal took Austin's tally to four for the season but manager Danny Wilson says he will not be rushing into the loan market to fill the gap left by his absence.

"We've got a couple of strikers in the club who are champing at the bit to play and they deserve opportunities, so we'll see how we go," he said.
