Swindon defender Callum Kennedy says he is ready to fight for a first-team place following his return from injury.

The 20-year-old suffered a pelvic injury mid-way through last season but made his comeback as a substitute in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Brentford.

"I just want to play for Swindon and play in every game I can," Kennedy told BBC Wiltshire.

"If you've been ready for weeks, months, whatever it's been, then you've got to take your chance when given it."

The former Reading trainee made his debut for Swindon in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in September 2007.

But he had to wait more than a year for his first league start which came against Carlisle in December 2008.

He faces competition for the left-back slot from Michael Rose and Lecsinel Jean-Francois, but is now out to impress manager Danny Wilson.

"All I can do is train well this week and then obviously it's up to the gaffer."
