Swindon manager Danny Wilson is close to bringing Manchester City striker David Ball to the County Ground.
The 20-year-old, who has yet to break into the Premier League club's first team, will sign on a season-long loan.
Wilson told BBC Wiltshire: "There's a big interest in young David. He's somebody we think could help us."
The deal is unlikely to be completed in time for Ball to go on Swindon's pre-season tour to Austria but should be done before the season starts.
"We can't do anything yet simply because Man City have to make their decisions," Wilson explained.
"Its very unlikely he'll come to Austria. It really depends on Man City's situation and they'll dictate but I'm hopeful he'll be here before the season starts."
