Striker search ends in Venezuela
![]() John Hollins unveils his new signings
Swansea City have signed Venezuelan international striker Giovanni Savarese as John Hollins' long search for a striker appears to have come to an end.
The club also signed French attacking midfielder David Romo, who had been on trial at The Vetch - the two deals are worth a combined £250,000. Savarese signs from San Jose Earthquake in the States and played against Brazil on Saturday in a World Cup qualifying match. Brazil won the game 6-0 in Venezuela - Romario scored four of the goals. The Venezuelan has scored 10 goals in 28 games for his country, however and will be at Swansea until the end of the season. Swansea then have an option to keep him longer at the club.
Nicolas Anelka
The 22-year-old Romo had been playing for Guingamp in the French first division but was told by coach Guy Lacombe that he had little future there. Romo starred alongside Nicolas Anelka in the French Youth side at the start of his career. He signs a contract that keeps him at The Vetch until June 2002. The player said, "It was becoming impossible for me to get a game with Guingamp because I fell out with the coach." "We just don't get on and he said that he would not play me again. He made it pretty obvious there was no future for me there." The Swans stepped in with the offer of a trial and rescued him from his French troubles. |
