Midfielder Jordi Lopez terminates Swansea City stay

Swansea City midfielder Jordi Lopez has had his contract at the Championship club cancelled by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old Spaniard was signed on a free transfer in July 2009 by former manager Paulo Sousa but struggled with injury and being out of favour.

Just five of his 20 appearances have come this season under new boss Brendan Rodgers, the last being in October in the 0-0 home draw against Derby.

Lopez's contract at the Liberty Stadium was due to run until the summer.

It is understood he was one of the highest earners at Swansea so his departure is likely to free up funds for Rodgers to strengthen his squad.

Lopez is the fifth player to exit the club since the January transfer window opened.

Striker Gorka Pintado has gone on loan to Cypriot First division side AEK Larnaca for the rest of the season.

Also out on loan until the end of the season are goalkeeper David Cornell (Port Talbot) and midfielder Scott Donnelly (Wycombe), while striker Kerry Morgan has rejoined Newport County.

Swansea's FA Cup fourth-round tie at home to Leyton Orient on 29 January will be shown live on S4C, with a 1250 GMT kick-off.
