Huw Jenkins hints over quick Angel Rangel deal

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has hinted that Angel Rangel's future could be resolved in the next few days.

Premier League new boys Blackpool have already had a bid turned down for the 27-year-old Spanish right-back.

But Jenkins confirmed he was still talking to the Seasiders over right-back Rangel's proposed switch to Bloomfield Road.

"He's made his feelings well known about being given a chance to play in the Premier League," said Jenkins.

"At this point in time we are still talking to Blackpool to see if they come somewhere near where we think they need to be on figures and we will see how that goes over the next few days.

"But saying that, Angel is our player, he's contracted for the next 12 months and unless they come up with the right deal to suit both parties, Angel is still our player."

Rangel has been with Swansea since the summer of 2007 after joining from Spanish side Terrassa for a fee believed to be in the region of £15,000, and has gone on to make 121 league appearances.

The [transfer] deadline is not until the end of August and the shame is he's such a good player for us

In January, he hit out at Jenkins claiming he was denied the chance to join Fulham saying in an interview that he was "disappointed" and felt like Jenkins had "stopped me improving my career."

A month later, Rangel extended his contract until 2011 after triggering an appearance clause.

Newspaper speculation suggested last Thursday that Blackpool were set to make an offer of up to £1m for Rangel who missed Thursday's 9-1 pre-season friendly win over Dutch side VC Sparta.

He did go on to feature in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to ADO Den Haag.

But Alan Curtis, who is on the club's coaching staff, fears Rangel will leave the club.

"I think the club are trying to persuade Angel and trying to open talks over a new contract," Curtis said at the weekend.

"But obviously the lure of playing in the Premier League is something he is probably going to find very difficult to turn down.

"It looks likely that he may well move on, but that might not be for a couple of weeks yet.

"The [transfer] deadline is not until the end of August and the shame is he's such a good player for us."
