Wales international David Cotterill has completed his permanent move to Swansea City from Sheffield United to sign for a club record fee.

The 22-year-old striker has signed a three-a-half-year deal for £600,000.

Cotterill has been on loan at Swansea since November and scored his first Swans goal in their FA Cup third round defeat to Leicester on Saturday.

The 15-times capped Welshman had been at Sheffield United for almost two years since joining from Wigan.

Cotterill joined Wigan Athletic for £2m in August 2006 but made just 18 Premier League appearances in 18 months, prompting a July 2008 move to the Blades after an initial loan spell.

He struggled to hold down a first team place at Bramall Lane and left for south Wales in November.

Cotterill had been slow to start at the Liberty Stadium but his stunning 30-yard strike at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday showed his potential.

"I'm delighted its all finalised," said Cotterill.

"As far as I'm concerned I've joined the best footballing side in the Championship.

"I've come here to play football and I aim to keep working hard, get myself in the starting XI on a regular basis and chip in with a few more goals.

"It's not going to be easy because there are some good players here and the team is doing well.

"But I hope to stay here for a long time and help the club move on. There is no reason why we can't finish in the top six this season."
