Interview: Swansea midfielder Ferrie Bodde

Swansea midfielder Ferrie Bodde has hit out at reports constantly linking him with a transfer move after making his return from a serious knee injury.

The £5m-rated Dutchman, 27, played for the first time in 10 months in a reserve game on Wednesday.

Wigan, where ex-boss Roberto Martinez and team-mates Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez are, failed with two summer bids.

"There was a lot in the press... I was not really happy with it - to see your name in the papers every day," he said.

"People like to say things, then Jordi Gomez is saying things and Jason Scotland is saying things and it looks like I'm saying things."

Bolton Wanderers earlier had a £2.5m bid rejected, before Wigan made their move with two bids worth up to £4.5m, but Bodde says it was a "compliment" that clubs still wanted him despite his injury.

Now he is focused on regaining his place in Swansea's first team after playing 83 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Swindon reserves, while also discussing an improved contract at the Liberty Stadium.

"I can't say a lot about it because we are still talking," said Bodde, who joined two years ago from ADO Den Haag for £80,000.

"First I want to get some minutes on the field and then hopefully we can agree something.

"I'm now ready to start playing. I have targets, still with Swansea.

"I always want to play in the Premier League but I see there's a chance with this team that we can get there also."

Bodde could be in line for a place on the bench for Saturday's trip to Preston - the scene of his 40-yard wonder-goal last season in a 2-0 victory.

Swansea are searching for their second win of the season against a Preston side who are unbeaten in their opening six games.

"We know Preston haven't lost yet this season and they are a solid team defensively, compact, very aggressive and don't make mistakes," said manager Paulo Sousa.

"We need to create some difficulties for them and make them make bad decisions to win the game."
