Swansea capture Trinidad defender

Radanfah Abu Bakr
Radanfah Abu Bakr is relishing his chance at Swansea City

Swansea City have signed Trinidad and Tobago defender Radanfah Abu Bakr on a three-month deal.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who has played for Trinidad and Tobago side Caledonia AIA Fire, has been on trial at the Championship club.

Abu Bakr follows fellow countrymen striker Jason Scotland and defender Dennis Lawrence to play for Swansea.

"I am absolutely ecstatic to get my chance here and I can't wait to get going," he told the club's website.

"The move happened quite quickly but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."

Abu Bakr, who started in Soca Warriors' recent World Cup qualifiers with Mexico and El Salvador, is Swansea's sixth signing of the summer.

He follows winger Nathan Dyer, midfielder Jordi Lopez and strikers Stephen Dobbie, Craig Beattie and Lee Trundle into the Liberty Stadium.

Bakr, who has scored once in his five Trinidad and Tobago caps, could provide much-needed defensive reinforcements for new Swans boss Paulo Sousa.

Bakr, who has recently graduated from a business management degree, is due to fly back across the Atlantic to play in the Soca Warriors' 2010 World Cup qualifier in Honduras on Saturday.
