Leon Britton says Middlesbrough are a talented team

Midfielder Leon Britton hopes to celebrate his 300th Swansea appearance in style when the Swans host relegated Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Britton, 28, is relishing the first Championship game of the season at the Liberty Stadium, with the side managed by Gareth Southgate the opponents.

"It's a nice achievement, I'm obviously looking forward to it," said Britton.

"If you'd told me six-and-a-half years ago when I first came down I wouldn't have believed it."

Britton says facing a club relegated from the Premier League adds to the sense of occasion.

He said: "It's nice that our first league game at home is against a side that's just come down from the Premiership.

"It's going to be a great occasion. We know it'll be a tough task.

"They've kept a lot of players from the side that came down, they're a talented team.

"If we keep to our standards we can come away with a win."

Paulo Sousa's side beat Brighton 3-0 on Tuesday, but next up are Boro and Reading.

Britton says facing such teams is a good early test of the Swans' potential this season.

He added: "They [Reading and Boro] are two teams that a lot of people expect to be up there at the end of the season.

"It's a difficult start but we have nothing to fear.

"We saw that last year - if we are at the top of our game then we can beat any side in this division."

Britton has also scoffed at suggestions during the off season he was looking to move.

He said: "I've had people ringing me and texting me asking about transfer requests and not being settled and I'm not sure why.

"It's all very wide of the mark."
