Swans boss cool on Dyer signing

Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez says he was happy not to be involved in last-gasp January transfer dealings.

There had been speculation that the loan signing of Southampton striker Nathan Dyer could be made permanent.

That did not happen and Martinez says he is happy to have Dyer on loan until the end of the season, when they may revisit a permanent deal for the Saint.

"We don't put ourselves in a panic situation or work in a deadline," Martinez told BBC Sport Wales.

"We're working with Nathan until the end of the season, we want to make sure he enjoys his stay at Swansea City, that he enjoys his football and progresses his career.

"After that, whatever happens will happen. I'm not bothered at all. I want to keep improving as a football club and Nathan is going to be a big part of it."

Dyer has proved a big hit for the Swans since the 21-year-old arrived on loan at the start of January, exciting with his pace and scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 win that knocked out defending FA Cup champions Portsmouth.

Southampton are thought to want £750,000 for Dyer, who has also spent three months on loan at Sheffield United this season.

Swansea's offer fell short of Saints' valuation, with chairman Huw Jenkins saying the south Wales club would not be "pushed into a corner" over a fee.

Coventry City's goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos is another player who has impressed while on loan with the Swans, having been at the Liberty Stadium since October.

The Greek stopper deputised ably for Dorus De Vries while the Dutchman was injured and provides experienced back-up.

Konstantopoulos is expected to continue on loan but may be another that Martinez will revisit for a permanent move.
