Swansea taught a lesson - Britton

Leon Britton says Swansea must learn to match teams like Reading
Leon Britton says Swansea must learn to match teams like Reading

Leon Britton admitted Swansea had been brought back to earth with a bump by their 4-0 hammering at Reading.

Swansea arrived at the Madejski Stadium on the back of a Carling Cup win over fierce rivals Cardiff but were turned over on the return to the Championship.

"We made our own problems, we didn't play well and we let Reading get a grip on the game," said the midfielder.

"In the first half we didn't play well at all and to go 3-0 down, you're climbing mountains after that."

Reading took the lead within 19 minutes through Noel Hunt, with Kevin Doyle and Noel's brother, Stephen, sealing the result before half-time.

Doyle added his second after the break to drop Swansea to 18th in the Championship table, while the Royals are in third.

"We've got to make sure we learn from this and don't make the same mistakes again," Britton added.

"We've always said we want to do well in this division and if that's the case then we've got to make sure we match up against teams like Reading.

"Tuesday night's win over Cardiff took a lot out of us, but the club's very good at making sure we recover well.

"So as players we can't complain... now we've got to make sure we recover well, go to Preston on Tuesday night with clear heads and wipe this performance out of our minds."
