Midfielder Darren Pratley has signed a new "long-term performance-related" contract with Swansea City.

Pratley's current deal expires at the end of the season, but the new contract is set to keep him at the Liberty Stadium beyond 2010.

"I'm happy here, enjoying my football and I'd like to think I've got a good relationship with the players, staff and the fans," said the 23-year-old.

"I'm delighted to get the new deal signed early."

Pratley joined the Swans in the summer of 2006 for 100,000 from Fulham.

He is the latest player to commit his future to the Swans following defender Angel Rangel and striker Jason Scotland.

And he is enjoying life in the Championship as part of manager Roberto Martinez's three-man central midfield.

"The Gaffer has given me the role of playing the furthest forward out of the three in midfield,'' he said.

"I've been told to try and push on and link up quicker with the central striker.

"I think it's worked well so far, although I am determined to grab a few more goals to go with the role.

"I've been fairly happy with my performances so far this season, but it's still early days and I am determined to improve as an individual and as a team player.''

Manager Roberto Martinez added: "We've secured another player with Premier League potential, and a player who wants to fulfil that potential with Swansea City.''
