Swansea boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to repeat the 4-2 win over Hull five years ago when they meet in the Carling Cup second round on Tuesday.

The result in May 2003 had a lot more importance for the Swans as it meant they stayed in the Football League.

But Martinez, who was a player at the time, said: "It has all the ingredients for a special occasion.

"We are really excited as Hull are in the Premier League at home and it's a little bit of repeating the history."

He added: "For Hull to be in the Premier League is a massive achievement, and for us to be in the Championship with the squad we've got is remarkable when you look back at that day."

"If someone could have predicted that day (where the two clubs would be today), they would have deserved a lot of credit."

Both sides have made bright starts to life in their respective new divisions.

And the game will see a return to the Liberty Stadium for defender Sam Ricketts, who left the Swans for Hull in 2006 for £300,000.

The Wales international joined the club two years earlier from non-league side Telford and earned his first cap while in south Wales.

Swans captain Garry Monk said: "He was a great servant in his time here but he will probably get a mixed reception."
