Martinez rallies frustrated Swans

Swans boss Roberto Martinez says the Bournemouth loss was 'cruel'

Manager Roberto Martinez challenged his Swansea players to seal promotion at title rivals Carlisle after their shock home loss to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Swansea had led through Andy Robinson until injury time, before an incredible Cherries fight-back saw the relegation candidates score two quickfire goals.

"We need to regroup and bounce back on Tuesday and make sure we get rid of all the frustration," Martinez said.

"Football can be a cruel game sometimes and we didn't get what we deserved."

Swansea seemed set to celebrate promotion to the Championship, controlling the game after going ahead and hearing the news they wanted from Huddersfield that promotion rivals Doncaster were losing.

But that situation all changed in a breathless end to the afternoon's football.

First 10-man Doncaster grabbing a late equaliser in Yorkshire, before Bournemouth boosted their League One survival hopes as Joe Partington and Jo Kuffour scored at the Liberty Stadium in quick succession.

Extra angst for the Swans was the performance of Cherries goalkeeper David Forde, on loan from the Swans' Welsh city rivals Cardiff.

"Their 'keeper kept them in the game," Martinez said.

"For 90 minutes we looked like the only team that was going to win, but towards the end Bournemouth had a few breaks that went their way.

"To get nothing out of the games is a big blow, because the performance deserved more than that."
