Goalkeeper Dorus De Vries has signed a two-year deal
Swansea City have signed Dorus De Vries on a two-year contract after the Dutch goalkeeper passed a medical.

The 26-year-old was out of contract with Scottish side Dunfermline, who were relegated from the Scottish Premier League last season.

Clubs from both the SPL and the English Championship were tracking De Vries, although Cardiff denied any interest.

"We are delighted to get someone of Dorus' calibre," Swans boss Roberto Martinez told the Evening Post.

"I'm just pleased to get Dorus signed because it's an important department of the team and it's one we needed to strengthen after losing Andy Oakes."

Martinez confirmed that De Vries will compete for the Swansea number one jersey with last season's first choice, Frenchman Willy Gueret.

De Vries impressed in his one season with Dunfermline after being released by Den Haag last summer.

His East End Park career ended on a sour note, however, as a blunder against Inverness in a 2-1 loss consigned the Pars to relegation from the SPL.

De Vries began his career at Stormvogels Telstar before moving to Den Haag in 2003 where he played alongside another new Swans signing, midfielder Ferrie Bodde.

The pair will soon be back in their homeland for Swansea's pre-season tour of Holland.

It kicks-off with a game against Stormvogels Telstar on Sunday 29 July, with matches to follow against Schipluiden, Alphense Boys and Sparta Rotterdam.

Before that the Swans will briefly travel to Sweden to take on Ostersund before returning to Wales to face local sides Neath, Llanelli and Port Talbot.
