Sunderland have signed Argentina full-back Marcos Angeleri from Estudiantes for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old defender, who has won three international caps, had been training with Sunderland and has now signed a three-year deal.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce said: "In recent years he's been one of the best right full-backs in South America."

"Marcos is a strong, powerful defender and will add depth to the squad. He is also very keen to get forward."

The defender began his career at Primera Division side Estudiantes in 2002 and has made 175 appearances for the 2009 Copa Libertadores champions.

Prior to Saturday he had been unable to sign because his Italian passport, to which he is entitled through his father, had not been issued.

So far this summer the Black Cats have signed defender Titus Bramble, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, defender Ahmed Al-Muhammadi and winger Cristian Riveros.
