Gordon sidelined by fractured arm

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon faces a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his left forearm during Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Tottenham.

The £9m signing suffered the injury in a collision with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe, and Black Cats boss Steve Bruce said: "Craig is in a lot of pain."

It is not yet known how many games the 26-year-old Gordon will miss.

But the Scotland international will definitely sit out his country's friendly against Wales next Saturday.

Gordon initially tried to continue at White Hart Lane but was eventually replaced by Marton Fulop and taken to hospital, where X-rays revealed a fracture of the forearm.

He has now returned to Wearside with the rest of the Sunderland squad, where his injury will be monitored in the coming days.

The former Hearts keeper, who joined Sunderland in 2007, missed long spells of last season with an ankle injury while a knee problem restricted him during the summer.

Hungarian international Fulop, 26, and 21-year-old Trevor Carson will provide cover during his latest absence.
