Goals will impress Capello - Bent

Darren Bent
Bent is the top English scorer in the Premier League with seven goals

Sunderland striker Darren Bent believes England boss Fabio Capello cannot ignore him for future call-ups if he maintains his current scoring form.

Bent, 24, is the top English scorer in the Premier League with seven goals in eight league games on Wearside and is confident he can keep up his record.

"It's a perfect platform - it's a massive club that's going in the right direction," he told BBC Newcastle.

"If I keep scoring at the rate I'm going, I can't be ignored for long."

He added: "I won't let my head drop - I'll keep going and trying to knock them in."

Next up for Bent and Sunderland is the visit of Liverpool. The Merseysiders have had a mixed season thus far but the Cambridge-born striker expects a tough encounter.

"We've got nothing to fear. We've gone to Manchester United and done really well," he said.

"If we play the football we can do then we can beat them.

"Jamie Carragher is one of the toughest players I've played against in the Premier League.

"But we've got several avenues to score goals and if we play well, the crowd will get behind us and we can beat them."
