Black Cats sign Barca midfielder

Sunderland have signed Barcelona midfielder Arnau Riera, subject to his obtaining international clearance.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has agreed a three-year contract after passing a medical, having spent 10 days training with the Black Cats.

Manager Niall Quinn said: "We really like the look of him. He's a creative player but he also likes a tackle.

"He has fantastic lungs, and he's the type of player you need to be to come to Sunderland. He ticks all the boxes."
